Products we've built
Irrelon Software produces both open and closed source projects for in-house and third-party use. While our consulting services make up the bulk of our work, producing innovative and useful products is a passion for us.
NoSQL Database
ForerunnerDB
A database written in JavaScript with a Mongo-like query language and data-binding support. Runs in browsers and hybrid mobile apps as a client-side DB, or on the server via Node.js.
- Type
- Database System
- License
- MIT Open Source
- Languages / Platforms
- JavaScript, Node.js, Browsers
- Project Budget
- £240,000 GBP / $352,000 USD
What we did
We found that existing browser-based database systems such as TaffyDB were outdated and underdeveloped, often requiring convoluted query commands and a steep learning curve. ForerunnerDB was modelled after MongoDB to provide a lightweight, easy to use but very powerful query language, and we released it open-source to foster a growing community.
Result
Irrelon Software created one of the most advanced browser-based database systems available, which runs server-side too via Node.js. Stand-out features include:
- Views — virtual collections built from existing collections and limited by live queries
- Joins — query with joins across multiple collections and views
- Sub-queries across collections and views
- Collection groups — operate CRUD on grouped collections as a single entity
- Data binding (browser) — bind data to your DOM and update the page in real time
- Persistent storage (browser & Node.js) via an optional persist module
- Compression & encryption for persisted data
- Built-in REST server (Node.js) with access control and remote procedures
- AngularJS and Ionic support via an optional module
Install via npm: npm install forerunnerdb
Geo-Spatial Big Data Network
Orbzu
Built from the ground up with geo-spatial query performance at its core, Orbzu is a property listings platform on web, iOS and Android. It began as a social network designed to take user-generated content with geo-tagging and present users with information local to them.
- Type
- Social Network / Big Data
- License
- Private
- Languages / Platforms
- Node.js, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, React Native, Next.js, Angular.js
- Project Budget
- £480,000 GBP / $703,000 USD

What we did
We built a scalable user content display network with high performance querying, combining full text and geo-spatial data. Irrelon also developed the iOS, Android and web apps that talk to the Orbzu API server-side. Orbzu launched in Thailand and serves millions of users via web and smartphone apps.
Result
A scalable social network driven by user-generated content, searchable via full-text and geo-spatial indexing. Features include:
- Geo-spatial and full-text index
- Scalable architecture
- Real-time data-bound updates
- iOS and Android push notifications
- Node.js, ElasticSearch and MongoDB server-side
- Property listings and classified adverts
- Administrator portal
- Real-time image upload, scaling and cropping
- Address geo-coding and reverse geo-coding from long/lat
HTML5 Game Engine
Isogenic Game Engine
A 2D and isometric scene-graph based canvas rendering system with real-time networked client-server architecture and client-side entity interpolation from delta updates. The same API runs in both the browser and Node.js.
- Type
- Game Engine
- License
- MIT Open Source
- Languages / Platforms
- JavaScript, Node.js & HTML5 Browsers
- Project Budget
- £350,000 GBP / $512,000 USD
What we did
We built an HTML5 game engine with built-in real-time networking and 2D / isometric rendering support. Other game engines have some of these features but few include them all as standard. The engine runs entirely in browsers and Node.js via JavaScript and uses a scene-graph based entity tree.
Result
A game engine that utilises the power of HTML5 and websockets. Features include:
- Scene-graph based entity system
- 2D and isometric view support
- Real-time networking
- Delta-based update packets
- Client-side entity interpolation
- Built-in Box2D physics support
jQuery Plugin
Real-time Language L18n
Writing multi-language web applications presents unique challenges, so we created a plugin that uses token replacement (with regular expression support) to translate sections of text on the fly as they are added to the page.
- Type
- jQuery Plugin
- License
- MIT Open Source
- Languages / Platforms
- JavaScript, jQuery, Browsers, Node.js
- Project Budget
- £5,000 GBP / $7,300 USD
What we did
Using iOS internationalisation as inspiration, we created a language and text manipulation library that converts tokenised content into language specific text on the fly — particularly useful for single page applications and mobile apps built with Ionic or Cordova.
Result
Web applications can change languages on the fly. Features include:
- Token based text replacement
- Regular expression support
- All unicode languages supported
- Change languages in-app on the fly or by user selection
- Supports HTML and text added or changed dynamically
- Supports conversion of AJAX-loaded data
